The oil filter grommet on your opposed twin Onan is critical. This grommet can save your motor. The design of the engine cooling requires that this grommet is in place to keep the cooling air from escaping around the filter housing; that tin gap needs to be filled with this part. With this grommet missing it is very common for catastrophic engine failure, we see this very often. The most common failures are loose or bad valve seats, piston or head damage, and often broken connecting rods. Chances are if there is a failed Onan engine with an oil filter, the bad cylinder 85% of the time is on the oil filter side and this grommet is missing.
OPTION- We have also found a nice seal that we call the deluxe version and forms a real tight seal and is bigger over all than our new seal version or the OEM one.
NOTE- Grommets work great on the OEM "Onan/Fleetguard" high capacity filters, and they are the only filters we recommend for Onans. We can not guarantee they will fit other brands or models of filters as length and diameter of filters can very slightly from model and brand, if you are not sure we recommend ordering our Onan OEM filter kit HERE

Bought 2 of these deluxe oil filter sealing grommets for my Deere 318 L&G tractors. When ordering these I wasn't sure if the "air gap" around my filter justified spending the extra money for the deluxe grommet. I'm glad I ordered the wider grommet. FYI - the deluxe grommet will seal a one inch wide gap around the filter. Not sure of the standard width dimension? I had some questions regarding the grommet. This is an excellent dealer to work with. I would not hesitate to buy from them again.
I seen this when I was looking for something else. I don’t remember what happened to mine. I’ve had the tractor since 1975 bought it new mine, missing, but I didn’t realize there was that much air blowing around the oil filter so I went out and started it and sure enough there’s a lot of air blown around it so I ordered this. I haven’t put it on yet but it should work just fine like I said I don’t know what happened to my original one just must’ve left it off and lost it when I was changing oil
Thanks for the oil change video. When I bought my 4020PS a few months ago this seal was missing. I never knew there was a heat shield on this unit. Now I know! Ordered, received and installed. Great service as always.
